Best steakhouses in Glasgow

The "Miller & Carter Glasgow" in Glasgow, Scotland, is a renowned steakhouse dedicated to the art of perfect steaks and is part of the nationally known Miller & Carter chain. It is located in a historic building in the heart of the city, which was once a bank and later a post office before being transformed into a stylish restaurant in 2016. The elaborate restoration has preserved the architectural grandeur of the building and combined it with modern elements, giving the venue a unique atmosphere. It is a place that is a real highlight for both meat lovers and those looking for a refined yet relaxed dining experience.

High quality steaks in Glasgow

The cuisine at Miller & Carter Glasgow revolves around high-quality steaks that are carefully selected and prepared. The beef comes exclusively from trusted British and Irish farms, and each piece of meat is aged for at least 30 days, using both wet and dry aging techniques to ensure maximum tenderness and flavor. Particularly noteworthy is the "Ribeye", a juicy piece with intense marbling, cooked to perfection on the open grill and served with a selection of homemade sauces like the spicy "Beef Dripping Sauce". The "Fillet Mignon" is also popular – tender and compact, ideal for those seeking a lean yet flavorful experience. In addition to steaks, there are creative alternatives such as the "Hot Honey Chicken Wings", enhanced with sweet and spicy Roquito sauce, and for vegetarians the "Crown Prince Squash", an oven-baked squash dish with avocado and hummus, emphasizing seasonal freshness.

Upscale restaurant in Glasgow

Sides are an integral part of the experience and are carefully selected to complement the main dishes. The "Onion Loaf" – a crispy onion creation – is a popular accompaniment, as is the "Wedge Salad", a crunchy iceberg salad with various dressings like bacon and honey. For dessert, the "Lemon Tart" entices with its zesty flavor and creamy texture, often described as the perfect ending to a rich meal. The drink selection is equally thoughtful: In addition to an extensive wine list perfectly matched to the steaks, there are craft beers and cocktails like the "Koko Kanu", a fruity blend with coconut rum and pineapple that brings a touch of lightness.

Historic steakhouse in Glasgow

The ambiance of Miller & Carter Glasgow is a successful blend of elegance and coziness. The interior impresses with high ceilings, exposed bricks, and a central bar area from which one can overlook the bustling activity. The restoration of the former bank building has left a glamorous touch, complemented by modern accents like stylish lighting and comfortable seating. It is a place suitable for various occasions – whether a romantic dinner, a business meal, or an evening with friends. The open kitchen adds an additional dimension by allowing guests to watch the chefs at work, emphasizing the team's craftsmanship precision.

Vegetarian options in restaurant

The service is often described as outstanding, with a team that is not only friendly and attentive but also possesses in-depth knowledge of the dishes and their preparation. The chefs themselves are trained in an in-house "Steak School", explaining the high quality and consistency of the food – an approach that has earned the restaurant the title of "The Masters of Steak" from the Craft Guild of Chefs. On busy days, it can get crowded, but the staff ensures that the wait times remain bearable, often with a charming smile and a small gesture like a glass of Prosecco for the patient guests.

Miller & Carter Glasgow also offers flexible options such as a fixed lunch menu or seasonal offerings that enhance the culinary experience. It is a place that values sustainability by working with selected suppliers, and also provides vegetarian and vegan alternatives that are prepared with the same care as the meat dishes. It is equally welcoming for families, with offerings that appeal to younger guests as well.

This was our 2nd visit to Miller & Carter. Our first, in Aberdeen, was a great experience but unfortunately this one in Glasgow was mediocre. The service was great with really helpful and knowledgeable servers. They have good people working for them. The traditional Mojito was good, unfortunately their own style Margarita was too far from the original and I found not nice. Please offer a classic margarita. Starters of Burrata and scallops were lovely. The 50 day aged Black Angus filet mignon was very good flavour but unfortunately undercooked. lf a customer wants a well-done/medium fillet steak that's up to them and for a reason, regardless if the chef thinks it's right or not. The rib-eye was cooked well but was an awful steak, too thin to have a good flavour on the outside while also being cooked to medium or less. It had too many large parts of fat through it. Rib-eye is always my steak of choice so I've eaten many. There's something not right when you can buy a nicer (and thicker) rib-eye from Morrison's long horn range. The sides of iceberg lettuce, chips and in particular the beef dripping were lovely. The onion loaf was too greasy on this occasion. The wine was as expected. It was meant to be a special day out but sadly was mediocre so I'm not sure we'd visit again. Edit in response to the restaurant's answer. My expectations aren't super high. But if I'm spending upwards of £150 on a meal for 2 it really should be better.

Great quality steak / food and service. Fantastic venue. A little pricey but no more so than other comparable restaurants. Visited three times whilst working in the city for a week and welcomed back with a personal greeting. Personable staff.

As a steak lover it's taken me a long time to get to Miller and Carter and it was well worth it. Great atmosphere with attentive but not OTT service and the food was brilliant. Ribeye steak cooked perfectly (medium rare for me). Loved the options to go with the steak. Family had steaks or burgers and everyone had a superb meal. Great night 👍
